Wow and Wow and Wow!!

Well. After 2 horrible weeks, the Jets won...albeit a nailbiter to the end. Sanchez played well, including that naked bootleg on 4th and 1 which was a GREAT call. Defense had some issues...like giving up 378 yards and again time management was not so good, but it is a moot point. I am glad they won and certainly feel much better today than last week.
Oh yeah...hate to be a Giant fan this morning. And I am not gloating. As a season ticket-holder for 28 years, I have sat through many a Jet meltdown, so that is why I said that and can relate.

This is NOT Good

The Jets, who two weeks ago were tied with the hated Patriots are now 2 games behind them. First that horrible Monday night game where the hated Patriots spanked them 45-3, and now this past Sunday when the Dolphins (GRRRRRRRRRR) beat them 10-6 in horrible rain. They better get their shit together and FAST. They have Pittsburgh and Chicago on the road, before coming home for the final home game against the Bills. All I can say is OY!!

New York Rangers

Well, being so caught up with the Jets, I haven't written about the Rangers in a while. But Thursday and Friday they swept the home and home against the Ice-Landers. The game Thursday at the Nausea Mausoleum was a sloppy game but at least they won. Last night at the Garden was a nice shutout by Lundqvist. Let's hope they continue the good hockey.

JETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't why I haven't written anything in a while, but The J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS are 9-2 after their great win Thanksgiving night. Next is the game of the season for the NFL. The 9-2 Jets against the 9-2 hated Patriots on Monday Night Football. Whoever dreamt up this schedule is a genius. I would love to see the Jets once again kick the f*****g Patriots out of Foxboro. I will be in Huntington NY with some good friends watching the game and the place will be rockin! GO JETS!!!!!!!!!!

The Jets Once Again

I know it is a few days since the Jets incredible win over the Browns Sunday, but I felt I had to say a few words. First off, Cotchery making that unbelievable catch in OT after he pulls his hamstring was amazing. Sanchez getting out of a few potential sacks, including the Cotchery play is amazing. Holmes once again was amazing too.
On the down side, The Browns ate through the defense early on, which has to be addressed and the offense has to punch it in to the end zone, especially after that 10 minute drive which got no points when Folk missed the field goal. All in all, the Jets are 7-2 and though they are tied with the hated Patriots, the Jets have a better division record. This could be our year. GO JETS!!

Lucky Isn't The Word

The Jets were blessed today. In a game that was almost assuredly a loss, they came back and beat Detroit in OT. But they played horribly, and had too many bad penalties. Rex better lay down the law and fast. They play Cleveland next week, and the Browns manhandled the Patriots today, so the Jets better be more than prepared.

Tuesday, November 2, 2010

A couple of thoughts...

I haven't said anything about the New York Rangers this year so far, so I will now. They are playing okay and are in second place. It's too early to say otherwise but, I was happy with the last 2 games and am hoping they play with more consistency than last year.
As far as The Jets are concerned, Sunday was horrible...obviously. They have to put that game out of their mind and focus on Detroit. They need to play a well balanced game, despite how bad the Lions are.

5-1 First Place Jets!!

Well, I haven't written anything in a few weeks, but in the interim, The Jets have been playing well. This past Sunday, an uneven game, but they won. Now they have a bye, and can relax for 2 weeks before the next game, which is a home game(yay) on Halloween against the Packers. I hope the Jets make it very scary for them...now all together say...OY!!

Tuesday, September 28, 2010

First Place!

Well, now. The Jets Squished The Fish Sunday Night...although it was a game right down to the wire...but at this point in the season they are 2-1, with 2 division wins already. Last year they had only 2 all season. This week they play the lowly Bills, but they can't look ahead to the following Monday. They have to focus on the game at hand. Monday the 11th, they play the Vikings with their QB The Lying Sack Of Shit. I can't call him by his real name anymore. I'm gonna retire...I'm not gonna retire...I'm gonna retire...I'm not gonna retire...OY GEVALT!! T

That Baseball Team In Queens

The Mets are dead. Once again, no playoffs. Minaya and Manuel HAVE to go. And what would be even better, if the Schmuckpons would sell the team to people who KNOW how to run a baseball franchise. They certainly don't!

Monday, September 20, 2010

Well now...

The Jets beat the hated Patriots in a complete game yesterday. Revis has to have an MRI on his hamsting, and hopefully it won't be a probelm, but when you hold out,it is to be expected. Sanchez looked great and the D was awesome. Knocked Brady on his ass!! The hated Dolphins are next!!

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOOTBALL?????

Well fellow football nuts, football is back on Sunday's once again. The Giants open up the new stadium today but....THE NEW YORK JETS OPEN ON MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL!!
J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Monday, September 6, 2010

RE-VIS!!!

Well, Darrelle Revis finally signed. I am happy. I don't care about what went on while all this was happening. He was needed and he's here. The season starts next week. I am psyched.
J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!!!

Jets/Shmets/Jazz

It's been a few weeks since I posted anything. So let's get the bad stuff out of the way first. The Jets play their final pre-season game Thursday. No starters will play. I just hope they are ready for opening day since the offense looks horrible.
The Mets SUCK!!
Now on to Jazz. This past Sunday was the 18th Charlie Parker Jazz Festival in Thompkins Square Park in the East Village of NYC, for those not in the know. 4 hours of free jazz. Just phenominal.

Wednesday, August 18, 2010

Jets/Giants Pre-season game

Al I will say is this. Yes the Giants beat The Jets on Monday. But it is ONLY pre-season and the first game as well. You would think the way some people are talking about it, it's as the Giants beat The Jets in The Super Bowl. The Jets first game is Sept 13th on Monday Night Football. From then on it counts, not before. YEESH!

Mucking Fets

Why do the Mets always start their tank job around this time of the year? They have 2 more games this week with Atlanta and 3 with the Phillies. If they keep playing the way they have been as of late, they can forget about the playoffs once again. Like I said in the subject matter, MUCKING FETS!!!

Aug 1

August 1st has a few distinctions. First off, Jerry Garcia was born on that day in 1942. That is my half birthday...yeah I know that is weird, but I am glad to share it with Jerry. August 1st also is when the veteran's for Jets training camp are to arrive and I am psyched. The way the Mets are playing, I am glad football will be back to some degree. After almost going to the Super Bowl, this should be a great year. J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!!!

Another great concert memory

41 years ago today, I went to my first concert. I had heard live music at amusement parks, where a bunch of not too well known bands would play, but this was the first official one. I went to this day camp that had for 14 year olds something called the Adventurers. They took you to cooler places. One of those places was what was then called Westbury Music Fair in guess where on Long Island. The supporting act was Stevie Wonder and the headliner was Diana Ross and The Supremes. Not a bad first show wouldn't you say. As the saying goes, you never forget your first!!

Wednesday, July 21, 2010

Shmets

All I will say is this. The Mets can't win on the road. They better find a way fast, otherwise we will see a repeat of last year.

Thursday, July 15, 2010

And now for the 2nd half.....

Well fellow Mets fans, part 2 of the 2010 season starts today. Carlos Beltran is back and should be a great asset to the line up. The pitching has been quite good, although Manuel can't keep using K-Rod every day..or so it seems. I as all Met fans, would like them to play as consistent in the 2nd half of the season as in the 1st, and hopefully secure a playoff spot.

Friday, July 9, 2010

Mets/Braves

Well now. The Mets are 3 games behind the 1st place Braves and play them in a 3 game series before the who cares All Star break. I know I have written this scenario ad nauseum, but a 2 out of 3 situation, would be a good thing. The Mets are in a good position to at least get a wild card berth. Let's hope the 2nd half is even better than the first half. After last season, ANYTHING is better, but the playoffs would be nice.

Thursday, July 1, 2010

One more Who thing..

What I forgot to mention in my previous entry about the Who, was that the 4th song they did that night was a rare tune called I Don't Know Myself. In 1975, a friend of mine made me a 90 minute cassette of rare Who singles and that tune was on it. I even listened to it on the way there. And just before they did it, Pete Townshend said for you rare tape collecters out htere this is for you. Freaked me out!!

Mets doings/Today in Bob History

Well, at least the Mets didn't get swept by the Fishes. I hope that whatever was bothering Reyes is just a temporary glitch. They need him in the lineup. The good news is that the Mets are 10 games over .500, 1 1/2 games behind Atlanta and 2 in front of the Phillies. The next 3 series before the All Star break is most important. They need to have a strong showing against the Nationals, and then they play 2 division leaders, Cincinatti and Atlanta, and need to do good as well.
Exactly 10 years ago today, I went to the best Who concert EVER. I had seen them many times, but they pulled out some rare tunes and were just amazing. It was the PNC BAnk Arts Center in Holmdel N.J. I have been searching for this show for ages but to no avail. If anyone out there has a copy, I have some good music to trade.
The setlist:
01-07-2000: Holmdel, NJ, P.N.C. Bank Arts Center
I Can't Explain, Substitute, Anyway Anyhow Anywhere, I Don't Know Myself, My Wife, The Relay, The Seeker, Baba O'Riley, Bargain, I'm One, Pinball Wizard, The Real Me, Magic Bus, Behind Blue Eyes, You Better You Bet, Who Are You, 5:15, Won't Get Fooled Again, The Kids Are Alright, Let's See Action, My Generation

Great Music

I went to this UN-F***ING Believable concert in Brooklyn last night. It is the home of the Brooklyn Cyclones in Coney Island. Close to home for a change, which is real cool. It was Furthur with Phil Lesh and Bob Weir. The lead guitarist is from a Dead cover band called The Dark Star Orchestra and he is AMAZING. They just kicked ass. First set was most excellent, but the second set...OY GEVALT....at one point they do Playing in the Band...Dark Star... St. Stephen...The Eleven...back to Dark Star and THE WHOLE Terrapin Station. I can't even tell you how ridiculous that was. Of course the place went nuts. And as we are in 2010, the concert felt like the 70's, if you get my drift. Or just refer to the name of the blog..he he he!!

Monday, June 21, 2010

Oh well...

So, the Yankees, took 2 out of 3 this time. Didn't expect the Mets to sweep. Mets are still in 2nd place, 2 1/2 games behind Atlanta, so that isn't a bad thing. A day off before they play Detroit and Minnesota at Citi Field. They do need to get back on the winning side, but I am sure they will.

Friday, June 18, 2010

Subway Series Round 2

Here we go again!! The Mets visit Yankee stadium after 2 sweeps. The Yankees just lost 2 in a row, but that don't mean a thing. They can be dangerous. Well, let's hope The Mets continue their roll. As always...stay tuned....

Monday, June 14, 2010

Sweep...This is getting redundant, but I like it!!

Well, well, well! Another sweep for the Mets. Yes it was the lowly Orioles, but the Mets have been known to get complacent when playing bad teams sometimes, but not this time. The next 5 series will surely tell of the Mets mettle. They got Cleveland and Yanks on the road, Detroit and Minnesota at home and then Florida in Puerto Rico. If they can stay close to where they are, they may have a shot at the post season. Should be an interesting couple of weeks.

Monday, June 7, 2010

Sweep With Fishes

Well, I know the subject matter is weird..and no this is not Vito Corleone...but once again the Metsies pulled off a sweep, this time at the hands of the Florida Marlins. Citi Field has been good to the Mets this year and let's hope it continues. However they must start doing better on the road. After the 3 games with San Diego at home..and this 3 game set won't be easy... they go on the road for 9 games. 3 With Baltimore, Cleveland and then their crosstown rivals the Yankees. A winning record on the road would be nice.
As I always write....Stay tuned.....

Friday, May 28, 2010

SWEEEP!!!!!

Well now. After taking 2 of 3 from the Yankees, the Mets not only swept the Phillies, they shut them out in all 3 games. Not an easy task to be sure. They Brew Crew is next, followed by a West Coast swing. Let's hope they keep the good times coming!!

Monday, May 24, 2010

Well, well, well...

Even though I hate the song...2 out of 3 aint bad..as far as the Mets beating the Yanks this weekend. Last nights game was getting kind of close in the 9th, but a win is a win. Next up, the Phillies. Lets see if they can use the momentum of this series to go furthur.

Friday, May 21, 2010

Subway Series 2010 Round 1

Well, boys and girls, it's the Mets vs The Yankees at Citi Field tonight, tomorrow and Sunday. A good showing by the Mets would be nice. 2 out of 3 would not be bad. Stay tuned.....

Monday, May 17, 2010

Back In last again...

The Mets, who started poorly, and then had a great resurgance, are back to their old ways yet again. Niese re-agrivated his hamstring injury from last year, and even though the Mets did come back and almost tie the game yesterday, as we all know, almost doesn't count. Jerry Manuel has to go NOW!!! Although with the pitching staff they have and not too good clutch hitting, it probably doesn't matter who manages this team.

Monday, May 10, 2010

Good Tuneage

I haven't been seeing too much live music as of late. Nothing special and things are getting too expensive. However this past Saturday at the City Winery in SOHO NYC, they had Jorma Kaukonen and David Bromberg. Just a great show. They each do their own stuff before playing together. 2 great guitar players, just playing great tunes that the audience just loved. After all these years, they still sound great!

Monday, May 3, 2010

1 out of 3 aint good

Well fellow Mets fans, after the Mets won a very nice game on Friday 9-1, there were thoughts that maybe we could take 2 out of 3 from the Phillies. Figuring that Halladay would give the Mets problems Saturday,...which he did by shutting them out, it would be back to business since Santana was on the mound Sunday. But it was not to be. Santana got rocked for 10 runs, so those visions of staying in first place, quickly dissipated. Lets hope they can shake off these last 2 games and play the type of baseball they were playing for the last 2 weeks.

A Great Grateful Dead Memory

Since I started this here blog, I haven't mentioned this momentous occasion,so I will now. 39 years ago today when I was 16,I attended my first Grateful Dead concert at the fabled Fillmore East. This was notable for 2 reasons, it was the last time the Dead played there and in June of that year the Fillmore closed. But on this night, it was just fantastic. The New Riders opened for them and the Dead played a great show which I believe was the last time they did Alligator. A friend of mine gave me something...lysergically speaking.. to enjoy the show and the light show too!
Plus I told my parents (RIP), that I won't be home too late. I believe I got home around 4. Needless to say the were pissed, but got used to the fact I was going to go to more shows and also needless to say, I didn't go to school that day. It was the first of many Dead shows, and I am always...pardon the expression...grateful, to my friends who took me there.

Let's Go Mets!

Well, well, well. What a difference a week makes. The Mets are in 2nd place 1 1/2 games behind Philly...who they play this weekend in the City Of Brotherly Love...and are 10-9 after being 4-8. The pitching, most importantly Pelfrey has been great and of course Santana has been consistent. Even the hitting is coming around except David Wright who is in a major funk. He needs to snap out of it extremely quickly.
However things are looking up for these Metsies. Let's hope it continues. The Dodgers with a manager named Joe Torre is up next. 2 out of 3 would be nice!

It was 40 Years ago today.

I know today is the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, but this is about baseball, and how this type of situation will never happen again, but I am glad it did once.
On April 22nd 1970, we were off from school for Spring Break that week. My friend from high school and I decided to see a Met game that particular afternoon, especially since Tom Seaver was on the mound. We also knew that if you got to Shea Stadium's advanced ticket window early enough, they had all the tickets for that day's game before they distributed them to the individual gates. Well, we asked for the best they had, which was first row by 1st base for $3.50 each. If you look at a list of Tom Seaver's top 10 games, this was one of them. He struck out 19 San Diego Padres, with the last 10 strikeouts in a row. I know that record was broken by a few others, but on that day it was just fantastic.

Shmets

They are 2-5. The pitching stinks. The hitting stinks. The manager stinks. The GM stinks. Do you think I have made my point?

Monday, April 12, 2010

Rangers

They had to win. They were outshot 47-25. They couldn't score when they had the chance. Lindqvist had to make just a few more saves in the shootout but couldn't. Moron Tortorella couldn't have Gaborik shoot in the shoot out. Therefore they lost and no playoffs. Hockey is done for me this year. What Dumb Dolan does at this point, I don't give a shit!!

Good Memories

Here is something that happened 23 years ago today 4-7-87...with a good ending, but at the time there was a lot of anxiety.
I was on my way to a Grateful Dead concert with a friend of mine at The Brendan Byrne Arena in New Jersey..now Izod Center. We get to the Lincoln Tunnel and traffic isn't moving, cause of a bus accident across 2 lanes. We have to back out and head downtown to the Holland Tunnel..along with everybody else..and the anxiety is starting cause it is taking longer than it should to get there. It was being simulcast on the local rock station and my friend joked that we can catch the beginning if we are late, but I didn't want that to happen. We get to the Meadowlands complex at 7:20..show was a 7:30 start, and we couldn't park by the arena and had to park by Giants Stadium which was a longer walk. Yada, yad, yada, we get in, stop at the facilities, get a soda..no beer being sold that night...and plop down on the seat and just as I say to my friend, man that was not fun. the lights go down. That was the only time in all the years of seeing The Dead, that something like that occured and I can laugh about it all these years later, but at the time it was just weird. And it was a great show!!

WHOO HOO!!

METS WIN 7-1!!! TOMORROW THE WORLD!!
And yes I know it is only one win, but it is a good start!!

Mets/Opning Day

Well, fellow Met fans, here we go again, the start of a new season. Last year was not good. Too many injuries, bad pitching, no clutch hitting, all resulting in a 70-92 record.
Now that I got last year out of the way, hopefully Reyes, Murphy and Beltran will get off the DL quickly and we will have only the usual scrapes and whatnot a season will bring and all the bad things are a lot better this year.
Santana on the mound for Opening Day..let's hope for a win and to the start of a good season. LETS GO METS!!

Thursday, April 1, 2010

Rock and Roll

I am extremely lucky. I play in a band..unfortunately we don't gig due to lack of a bass player.., but we jam every Friday night. I also have a friend in Port Washington NY who has a band and he lets me sit in. Last Saturday was no exception. It is real cool that I have a chance to play live and that they guys let me play. it is also cool to play in front of your friends too. Just lots of fun!!

Very Sad

Once again, Doc Gooden is in trouble. He was involved in a car crash, and was charged with driving under the influence of drugs, endangering the welfare of a child..his 5 year old son Dylan...leaving the scene and DWI with a child passenger. When one thinks of the potential great career he could have had, and now this, as I wrote in the subject matter. Very sad!!

Monday, March 22, 2010

The Horrible N.Y. Rangers

They had to win in Boston yesterday, to keep their slim playoff hopes alive. They played a lackluster game and lost 2-1. Now they are 5 points behind the Bruins..who have a game at hand, with 10 games left for the Rangers. I think it is safe to say that they won't make the playoffs. I am a long time Ranger fan and I have no problem saying this. They don't deserve to make the playoffs. As long as Jim(I Am As Dumb As I Look) Dolan won't fire Sather and Tortorella. This team is going nowhere.

Friday, March 19, 2010

The Blues Hour

About 9 years ago, I got REAL tired of commercial radio..the classic rock station, Q104.3, plays the same songs and has endless commercials..so I started listening to WBGO 88.3 on your radio dial, with no commercials. They are based in Newark N.J. and is a jazz and blues station. Shortly thereafter, I became a member, since they had one of their pledge drives, and I get to go to members parties, get free cd's every 3 months along with hearing great music. But right now is the Blues Hour, every Mon-Fri 3-4 in the afternoon. They just played Robert Cray, Derek Trucks, The Allman Brothers from the Fillmore East and now they are playing Stevie Ray Vaughn who would have been 59 tomorrow. Just unbelievably great stuff.

Thursday, March 18, 2010

So Long Winter

The temperature where I am...I work in lower Manhattan...is in the low 60's.
Spring starts Saturday! No more snow, no more gloom, just beautiful weather!

Wednesday, March 10, 2010

Rangers

I realize I talk a lot about sports in this here blog, which was to be about sports and music. However that is to confining. I plan on talking about other stuff too. But back to sports for a minute. I have not mentioned the New York Rangers in quite a while, I guess because, there hasn't been too much to talk about. Right now, they are 3 points behind The Bahstan Bruins, and if the season ended today, it is time for the golf course and no playoffs. There are 16 games left and they do have an opportunity to make the playoffs if they display some of the hustle that they have shown to infrequently. They play the Devils tonight in The Prudential Center in Newark, and a win would be a good thing. The clock is ticking however.

Cablevision/ABC

Just another episode where the consumer gets the dirty end of the stick. I am not a watcher of Lost or the Oscars or most anything on ABC, however there are many people who do watch, and if this does happen it will be horrible. They say we should call Cablevision and say lose ABC, lose my business. A few years ago, the same thing happened with Time Warner and ABC..which was taken off the air for a few days. When it was restored, there was a full page ad in the daily newspapers saying you have a choice of cable systems. That is a total lie. In my neighborhood, it is Cablevision or nothing. Sure you can get Direct TV, but in the apartment building I live in, I am by the fire escape, so I am not allowed to have that. James(I Am As Dumb As I Look)Dolan, doesn't give a s**t about the consumers. He makes tons of money from his cable system, sports teams and what ever else he owns. Of course ABC is also to blame, wanting 40 million. The end is the 2 babies fight, and the people who pay their hard earned money get the shaft. Very sad!

Monday, February 22, 2010

USA

I have not kept up with much Olympics stuff for some reason, but I did watch USA vs Canada last night and it was great seeing Team USA win. I know Canadian fans were so cocky in their thinking that they would dominate us, but they did not. Brodeur made some unbelievable saves, but again so did Miller. It will be interesting to see how all this plays out.

Wednesday, February 17, 2010

Baseball Returns

Well, Spring training for now. Let's hope the Mets have better luck with much less injuries than last year. And that they play up to their potential. That is all I will write for now. Unless things get ugly in spring training.

Monday, February 8, 2010

Good game, and now no more football for 7months

Congrats to the Saints. A great win and the coach deserves kudos for that onside kick starting the second half. The halftime show was one of the best as well. The Who can still rock it out.
Now that football is over, I hope The Rangers can get on a roll as it gets closer to the playoffs. Having a break during the Olympics doesn't help however.

Some Sports Stuff...

Well, for those who live on the moon, The Super Bowl is Sunday. I am rooting for the Saints to win. Some think it is because the Colts beat the Jets. This is not so. It is the first time New Orleans is in The Super Bowl. And since the Colts already have won, it would be nice to see The Saints win.
Now that football is over, I have to deal with the Rangers playing their usual inconsistent brand of hockey at this time of year. Plus, in a few weeks it's pitchers and catchers. I would like to say I am excited that baseball is coming back..meaning it is spring and warmer temps, but the way the Mets played last year..and yes they did have their share of injuries...it could be another long year. OY!

SIGH

Well, the Jets lost yesterday ending the dream for this season. Still, you have to give them credit as to how far they did come, when nobody expected them to go this far.

Jets Have A Chance For The SUPER BOWL!!!

Oh my goodness!! These Jets are AWESOME. They didn't do so good in the first half against San Diego, but boy did they come back in the second half! Their defense is as good as Rex Ryan predicted and the running game is tops too. Mark Sanchez will eventually have games in which he throws for 200 or more yards, but he is playing smart and throws a touchdown when he needs too. ONE GAME AWAY FROM THE SUPER BOWL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3 Days to Dan Diego

This is great. The Jets play the Chargers Sunday with the possibility of playing in the AFC Championship game. If they win and The Ravens win, The Jets can host that game. That would be awesome! Even if the Ravens lose and they win, they play for a chance to go to The Super Bowl...OH MY GOODNESS!!

JETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, well, well!! The Jets are off to the divisional round in San Diego next Sunday. An easy game it won't be, but they have the defense to beat anyone. Rex Ryan has done an awesome job with this team. Sanchez looked great, the defense..with the exception of giving up 169 yards to Benson...was excellent as well. And how about Jay Feely taking on kicking and punting duties. I am proud of this team. GO JETS!!!!!
