Aug 1

August 1st has a few distinctions. First off, Jerry Garcia was born on that day in 1942. That is my half birthday...yeah I know that is weird, but I am glad to share it with Jerry. August 1st also is when the veteran's for Jets training camp are to arrive and I am psyched. The way the Mets are playing, I am glad football will be back to some degree. After almost going to the Super Bowl, this should be a great year. J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!!!

Another great concert memory

41 years ago today, I went to my first concert. I had heard live music at amusement parks, where a bunch of not too well known bands would play, but this was the first official one. I went to this day camp that had for 14 year olds something called the Adventurers. They took you to cooler places. One of those places was what was then called Westbury Music Fair in guess where on Long Island. The supporting act was Stevie Wonder and the headliner was Diana Ross and The Supremes. Not a bad first show wouldn't you say. As the saying goes, you never forget your first!!

Shmets

All I will say is this. The Mets can't win on the road. They better find a way fast, otherwise we will see a repeat of last year.

And now for the 2nd half.....

Well fellow Mets fans, part 2 of the 2010 season starts today. Carlos Beltran is back and should be a great asset to the line up. The pitching has been quite good, although Manuel can't keep using K-Rod every day..or so it seems. I as all Met fans, would like them to play as consistent in the 2nd half of the season as in the 1st, and hopefully secure a playoff spot.

Mets/Braves

Well now. The Mets are 3 games behind the 1st place Braves and play them in a 3 game series before the who cares All Star break. I know I have written this scenario ad nauseum, but a 2 out of 3 situation, would be a good thing. The Mets are in a good position to at least get a wild card berth. Let's hope the 2nd half is even better than the first half. After last season, ANYTHING is better, but the playoffs would be nice.

One more Who thing..

What I forgot to mention in my previous entry about the Who, was that the 4th song they did that night was a rare tune called I Don't Know Myself. In 1975, a friend of mine made me a 90 minute cassette of rare Who singles and that tune was on it. I even listened to it on the way there. And just before they did it, Pete Townshend said for you rare tape collecters out htere this is for you. Freaked me out!!

Mets doings/Today in Bob History

Well, at least the Mets didn't get swept by the Fishes. I hope that whatever was bothering Reyes is just a temporary glitch. They need him in the lineup. The good news is that the Mets are 10 games over .500, 1 1/2 games behind Atlanta and 2 in front of the Phillies. The next 3 series before the All Star break is most important. They need to have a strong showing against the Nationals, and then they play 2 division leaders, Cincinatti and Atlanta, and need to do good as well.
Exactly 10 years ago today, I went to the best Who concert EVER. I had seen them many times, but they pulled out some rare tunes and were just amazing. It was the PNC BAnk Arts Center in Holmdel N.J. I have been searching for this show for ages but to no avail. If anyone out there has a copy, I have some good music to trade.
The setlist:
01-07-2000: Holmdel, NJ, P.N.C. Bank Arts Center
I Can't Explain, Substitute, Anyway Anyhow Anywhere, I Don't Know Myself, My Wife, The Relay, The Seeker, Baba O'Riley, Bargain, I'm One, Pinball Wizard, The Real Me, Magic Bus, Behind Blue Eyes, You Better You Bet, Who Are You, 5:15, Won't Get Fooled Again, The Kids Are Alright, Let's See Action, My Generation
