Music/Football

Foist of all, as I have mentioned previously in this here blog, that I sometimes sit in with a friend's band in Port Washington NY. Last night was no exception. They had an open mike night where other musician's coud play what they wanted. And of course it was a blast. It is extemely cool playing live!
Second, The Jets better win. PERIOD. END OF STORY. Can't say anymore. Hopefully there will be a Happy Recap...with a nod to the great Met broadcaster Bob Murphy(RIP)!

PHEW!!!

Well, well, well. The Jetsies beat Buffalo...but the defense on The Bills last drive was like swiss cheese. Luckily Stevie Johnson didn't make the catch. But a win is a win. Still in the playoff hunt. PHEW!!!!!!!!!!

Saturday, November 26, 2011

Oops!

I just realized I pretty much posted the same though twice in the last two entries. Oh well...

Very Simply Stated

THE JETS HAVE TO BEAT THE BILLS. PERIOD. IF THEY DON'T, THEY ARE IN DEEP SHIT!

Tuesday, November 22, 2011

How is it...

...that the Jets...who were on a 3 game winning streak, with a chance to take sole posession of 1st place in the AFC, lose a game they should have won over the Hated Patriots on national tv, then...4 days later, let Tim Te-Shmo, take the Broncos on a 95 yard drive to beat the Jets? Well, all I know is this. If the Jets lose to the Bills this Sunday, they are in deep shit!!

Excellent Tuneage!!

A music entry for a change. I actually didn't note that two weeks ago, I saw The Fab Faux...The BEST Beatle cover band...at The Beacon Theater. A great show, and at one point they do the whole Magical Mystery Tour. WHOA NELLIE!
Well, this past Thursday, I went with 3 other good friends to see Furthur, with Bob Weir and Phil Lesh of The Grateful Dead at Madison Square Garden. What an excellent show. Unbelievable setlist. However it doesn't surprise me. They always do a great show for New York.

Here is that great setlist...

This is getting good

Well, well, well. The Jets beat the Bills yesterday and Giants beat the Patriots...THANK YOU GIANTS... to force an UNBELIEVABLE showdown at MetLife Stadium next Sunday night for first place. I really believe that the Jets will beat the Patriots and convincingly. The offense is better....although I would like to see more of it in the first half...but their defense has really come around. Brady and Belechick watch out...THE JETS ARE COMING!!!

JETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How bout them New York Jets? A GREAT come from behind victory agaisnt a very good Chargers team. Revis as usual made another interception...Sanchez looked good...and what can you say about Plaxico. 3 Td's. Just tremendous!!

A thawt

The Jets...HMMMM. Such promise at the beginning of the season, and now they are on a 3 game losing streak. I for one, don't mind Rex ryan saying they are going to win. However it helps if the team plays well, which they have not. This MOnday they will play 0-4 Miami. A win would certainly be nice. Let's hope so!

Tuesday, September 20, 2011

This is nice

Well...The Jets are 2-0 after coming back and beating the Cowboys in week 1 and totally killing the Jaguars this past Sunday. Now they go on a 3 game road trip and lets hope they come back with positive results. J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!!

Saturday, September 10, 2011

I have a question..........

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL????????????????????????????????????
Tomorrow is the home opener for the Jets and even with the rememberence of 9/11 coinciding on the same day, I am psyched. I will hang with my buddies for 28 years and have a grand old time tailgaiting before the game. Of course a Jet win over the Cowboys will be quite nice too.
J-E-T-S- JETS JETS JETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great Music...On A Boat!!

Well, it's been a while since I posted anything. Mets are doing shit, and I really don't comment much on pre-season football, but I am glad to see the Jets playing.
Last night I went on this blues cruise which goes up and down the Hudson River, goes past the Statue of Liberty and goes up the East River a bit, till it goes back. For $20, there were 3 great blues bands. Christine Santelli Band, Popa Chubby, and The Curtis Selgado Big Band. Totally effin awesome!! Was with some good friends and lots of cool people. Listening to great music while seeing the great sites on the river is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

More Free Music

Last night Patti Smith was at this cool place in Battery Park at the tip of lower Manhattan...for those who don't live here...called Castle Clinton which is a national landmark. A small place and with so many people we couldn't get seats, but it didn't matter. She was EXCELLENT. She did all the songs I wanted to hear and played for 2 hours. And you can't beat the price!!

Metsies

Well, followers of this here blog, I thought it was time to briefly talk about the Metsies. They are still may games behind in the standings and wild card chase, but they are playing much better. Too bad they couldn't have swept The Dodgers but I will take 3 out of 4 anytime. Lets see if they can take 2 out of 3 from the Giants before the All Star break. And hopefully, they can continue their consistent play.

More Free Music..Well Almost...

In Brooklyn, at Prospect Park, they have a concert series called Celebrate Brooklyn which has been around for years. It is free, but they suggest you give at least $3...more if you want..at the gate to keep it great as they say. Still dirt cheap, and they have all kinds of events. This past Friday, they had 2 piano trios, Jason Moran's Bamdwagon and The Bad Plus. It was a battle of the bands, so we all thought one would play, then the other etc. They played simultaneously and it was fantastic. The headliner was The Roy Hargrove Quintet. He was most excellent. Those guys were just phenominal musicians.
Next show I go to this Wednesday, won't be so cheap, but it should be fantastic.
Stay tuned.....

Free Music

Man I haven't kept up with this here blog, but here is something of interest. New York has a free music festival in the summer called River To River, where they have venues in lower Manhattan that have free music. Tonight was one of them. It was in the World Financial Center Atrium and it was a tribute to the old great club in Greenwich Village, The Bottom Line, which closed in 2004. The songs were all about New York, and some impressive people were there. Marshall Crenshaw, Loudon Wainright IIIm Rosanne Cash, Dar Williams, Willie Nile among others. It was great..and it was FREE!!!!

Good Tuneage

As I wrote yesterday, I went to see John Mayall at B.B. Kings Blues Club in New York.
For a 77 year old man, he still can rock it out. Just a phenominal show.

Friday, May 20, 2011

An Icon

Just about to head out B.B. Kings Club in NYC to see John Mayall. He is 80 and still going strong. Should be excellent!

Playin With The Band

I know it's been a while since I posted anything here, but this is a good thing to mention. As a musician, I play with my friends on Friday's, but we really don't play live since we have no bass player for the last 2 years...he was tossed for being an asshole...although I get to sit in with a friends band in Port Washington as I have mentioned at times here. There was a belly dancing show with Beatle music put on by a friend of the drummers wife who also puts on belly dancing shows. We were to be the live entertainment before the show and at intermission. And it was great. We got paid more than we were supposed to since the place was packed, the restaurant fed us afterwards, and for the rest of the afternoon, we had to watch scantilly clad women dance around to Beatle tunes. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon.
Here are the tunes:

Things We Said Today
You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away
I Need You
Don’t Let Me Down
I’ll Cry Instead
You Can’t Do That
One After 909
Can’t Buy Me Love

Besame Mucho
Rocky Racoon
Don’t Bother Me
A Day In The Life
Yer Blues
I Want To Tell You
And Your Bird Can Sing
All Together Now

My how time flies...

Well now. It has been 40 years to the day, that I attended my very first Grateful Dead concert at the Fillmore East in 1971. Since I already wrote about this momentous occasion on the 39th anniversary....why I didn't wait till now is anyone's guess...you can read about it in my blog entry for 4-29-10. Still hard to believe all those years passed, but a good memory to be sure.

Music for a change

I have used the subject matter more than a few times, but what the heck. Last night I saw Acoustic Hot Tuna in this small venue in the Chelsea section of Manhattan, called The Hiro Ballroom. If it had 200 people, it was a lot. Real nice place and the acoustics were excellent. I never get tired of seeing these guys acoustic or electric. Just phenominal. Below is the setlist for those who may want to see.

What a mess

The Mets got swept in their second doubleheader in 3 days. Of course they were not scheduled, but rain in New York and Atlanta caused this to happen. They are horrible however. Their record is 4-11. Last year at this time it was 6-9, but then they went on an 8 game winning streak. With the pitching they have, I don't see that happening.
Something has to give.

2 and OY

Well. As nice as it was for the Rangers to get in the playoffs, it would be nicer still if they can win a game. They couldn't hold the lead in Game 1, and as usual, couldn't clear the puck with 1:36 in the first OT and lost. Second game they didn't even score. I know they weren't expected to go very far, but c'mon fellas, try and score a few goals to be competitive. YIKES!

Bad Pitching

The Mets pitchers, from starters to relievers are HORRIBLE. It is quite possible they will finish in last behind the Washington Nationals. This is the worst I have ever seen!

Sunday, April 10, 2011

FINALLY!!!!!!!!

Well, after an excruciating week of The Rangers playing inconsistent hockey, they made the playoffs with a win over the Devils and Carolina losing to Tampa Bay(Thanks to your team John L if you read this)!
Now they play the Washington Crapitals in the first round. Not many people are giving them a chance, but if Lundqvist keeps them in the game, you never can tell.
LET'S GO RAN-GERS!!!!!!!!!

Saturday, April 2, 2011

Sports Stuff

Well, the Mets opened up the season with a lovely 6-2 loss. I know this is the first time since 2005 they lost the opener, but Bats In The Pelfrey giving up a Grand Salami, was not good. Plus with Santana not back for a while, this looks like a disaster in the making.
And now on to the lovely Rangers who better f*****g win tomorrow when they play The Flyers in Philly. The offense has been anemic, and the loss to the Ice-Landers the other night totally sucked.
As I usually say in this situation......OY!!

Nothing Like Live Music

For those who read this blog, and I admit I don't keep up with it as I should, I love live music. Having said that, I saw The Allman Brothers at The Beacon Theater last night...first row of the loge!! And it was just excellent. The way these guys sound, it brings back the days of Duane and Dickie and Berry. The jamming they do, is very jazz-like...which I happen to like as well, and Greggs voice sounds as good as ever. Just phenominal!

Rangers Stink Once Again

The Rangers lost 3-2 last night, doing their best to screw up the season once again.
I have been watching The Rangers for a long time...45 years to be exact, and I have seen this same game before, many times in that period. They come out flat, and get into a position to almost tie and with the goalie pulled, they have a flurry of activity that just miss and lose. Watching the 3rd period wind down, you hope they tie, but you could sense that they won't. What this team needs is a big kick in the tuchus

Monday, February 21, 2011

sregnaR

I wrote the Rangers backwards, because this is the time of year they go backwards instead of forward. In today's Daily News, there was an article about this, and I of course put my 2 cents in the forum they provide for our comments. This is what I wrote:
Years ago, there was a movie, If It's Tuesday, It Must Be Belgium, where a group is on a European vacation and have a rigid schedule. Well, if it's February, it must be time for the annual Rangers swoon. Being a long time fan, I have seen this so many times, I am used to it. As a few posters said and I have been saying this for way too long, this team will never be any better than they are now with Sather as GM. But Jim(I Am As Dumb As I Look) Dolan will not replace him. I know if they fail to make the playoffs again, Tortorella, will be blamed as any coach or manager is when the team does not do well and will probably be fired. Not defending him, but Torts can only do what he can with the talent he has. And that falls right on the doorstep of Slats and Dumb Dolan.

I hope the groundhog is right

According to the various groundhogs, we should have an early spring. Well, I certainly hope so. We deserve it after this horrible winter. IT SUCKS!!!!!!!!!

Thursday, January 27, 2011

Oh, did I mention this...

I HATE THE FUCKING SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
13 MORE INCHES HERE.
IT TOTALLY FUCKING SUCKS!!
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!

Monday, January 24, 2011

Sigh!!!

Well, once again The Jets had a chance to get to the Super Bowl, but couldn't beat the Steelers. I am a bit more disappointed than last year, since they barely made the playoffs in 2009, but this year...with a few bumps in the road...were much better. As always, I will get over it, but it still sucks none the less.

One Game From The Super Bowl!!!!!

WOW!!!!!!!! The Jets beat the hated Patriots...I would have written this yesterday but was a bit burnt from Sunday....and I LOVE IT. It was great to see Belichick and Brady with dour looks on their faces. Nobody gave The Jets a chance, except Rex Ryan, his coaches and his players. Next up The Steelers. Definitley not an easy task, but after beating two great QB's in Peyton Manning and Brady, Big Ben can be beat. GO JETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tuesday, January 11, 2011

NOT AGAIN!!

It is snowing heavily. 10-12 inches are expected. In a word...I HATE THE F*****G SNOW!!!!!

Sunday, January 9, 2011

JETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Once again these Jets, just do amazing things like winning at the last minute. It certainly didn't look like they would win after the Colts got a field goal with under a minute left. But Mark Sanchez was amazing with the 3 plays towards the end of the game...the run back to the 47 didn't hurt...and got them in field goal range.
Next up is the hated Patriots. This will be revenge of that blowout a month ago.

A bunch o things to say

First off...HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Just haven't been keeping up with this here blog. As usual, saw some great music on NYE. Los Lobos at this nice small place in downtown NYC called The City Winery. They kicked ass!
Oh yeah...THE JETS ARE IN THE PLAYOFFS!!!!!!!!! They can and will beat the Colts. They are not the team they were last year. And yes I know Peyton Manning can still be dangerous, but he had some rough periods this year and hopefully that will occur again.
