An observation

I was gonna talk about sports here, but I got to thinking about those poor people in Hurricane Gustav's path, and realize that for one entry at least, nothing is more important than that right now. Those people in New Orleans must feel they are hexed...and I am not being funny...to have another storm hit them head on, and with 2more behind Hannah. At least better steps are being taken and hopefully more people will be sensible this time and leave. All we can do for those people is pray that they don't get hit too bad.

Assorted Comments

Well! I mentioned this great pizza place in Brooklyn a few entries ago, and I was asked about other places I possibly may go for that stuff. So to answer those who have been responding...which I appreciate...I do not go to ANY chain pizza place. With all the family owned places in Brooklyn who have had these places for years, there is no way I would go to Pizza Hut, Dominoes(YECCH!!!!) Papa Johns or wherever.
I also don't do Murder Burgers....White Castle for those who may not know....or most fast food burger joints. Once in a while I may have Wendy's, but that is it.

Just a quick football note. Bless their little hearts, the Jets won't charge the upper tier people those PSL's(personal seat licenses)for the new stadium. I feel bad (seriously) for those who have to pay them, but it is a crock of shit. It is legalized extortion plain and simple. But with all that, I am looking forward to see my fellow tailgaters on Sept 14th for the 1st home game. The first game of the season should be real intersting. Jets/Miami in Miami. Favre vs Pennington. Stay tuned.....

Jets/Giants

Okay, the Jets beat the Giants. I am glad about that. Favre was average, but I am not worried. He has 2 weeks to get ready and I know he will be. Clemmens and Ratliff looked good and the defense was not bad. What was horrible and Mangini certainly looked pissed on the sidelines, are all those offensive penalties. They killed a few plays and a touchdown. No matter how good or bad your team is, it is going to happen, but not that many and at one point there was 3 in a row. I hoped Mangini read the riot act!!

Mets--Jets/Giants

Well, how about those Mets. Firing on all cylinders. The pitching has been better, they are getting hits with men on base, and getting some breaks as well. As much as I liked Willie Randolph, I know many who didn't, I think Jerry Manuel is doing a phenominal job. A little over a month to go, let's hope the f*****g Phillies can lose some as the Mets win, so they can increase their lead in first place. Oh, I believe the Mets play them next week. Should be intersting.
Are you ready for some pre-season football? Jets versus Giants...a Jet home game...with Favre meeting up with the team that prevented the Packers from getting to the Super Bowl. This will be an intense game, even though it is pre-season. I hope Favre does well, mainly because it will give us Jet fans some hope for the season. The offensive line must protect #4, so he has time to throw. And I would like to see the defense play just a tad better than last week. As Keith Jackson says, " Whoa Nellie, it's going to be a barn burner of a game."

A Change Of Pace...

No music or sports stuff in this entry. Just a word about the best sicilian pizza anywhere. If anyone reading this lives in the 5 boroughs, or if you are close enough to take a little outing...gas prices are lowering.....than you MUST go to L&B Spumoni Gardens in Brooklyn. They are located on 86th Street Between West 10th and West 11th Streets. I mention this because I had a serious jones I needed to fulfill and went there tonight. The thing about the square slices that are so amazing, is that the sauce is on the top. Now there are many places that do this, just not like L&B.
They have a restaurant there too, with excellent entrees and all, but also is the ice cream and ices place where they have the greatest homemade ices and ice cream and spumoni.
This place has been there over 60 years and is still the greatest. Check out the pics of a full tray of the square here: http://spumonigardens.com/ You'll want to go right out and get some!!

Never too old to rock/A quick word about The Jets

I am extremely lucky and thankful, that I have a chance to play in a band. As I previously wrote, we get together Friday's and it is fun. The only thing we don't do is play out, mainly cause the drummer has his regular band. But that is cool. The band he is in is called Proper Potion and they play on Long Island. They currently are on the latest cover of Good Times Magazine. The drummer is the one in the cool hat. Go to www.goodtimesmag.com. This cover is good till the 18th...which is tomorrow, but I am sure they archive it. I have another friend who has a band in Port Washington NY and whenever they play, they invite me to do a few tunes which I did last night. We did U.S. Blues, Dead Flowers and Wooly Bully. It was a blast. It is so cool playing for a packed place. Can't wait to do it again!
Before I headed out to Lon Gisland, as we say in Brooklyn, I caught part of the 1st quarter of the Jets/Redskins pre-season game. Favre looked good, although I knew he wouldn't play to long. I did get to see the end of the game at the bar I was in when the Redskins scored a TD with 1:09 left. Remarkably, with 3rd string QB Ratliff they marched down the field, and with .05 seconds left, they tried a chip shot field goal to tie it, which Nugent missed of course when he hit one of the goalposts. I hope this is not going to be the shape of things to come.

Music Stuff

Hello out there in Blogland!!
I wrote about this early on in my blog, but I will reprise it here. I have a very unique situation. I am in a band called The Trip 3's. We play in the drummer's apartment, but the neighbors don't hear anything but us singing. To explain. The drummer uses electronic drums. It is set up like a drum kit with foot pedals for bass drum and high hat. And has crash and ride cymbals as well as pads for snare drum, rack tom and floor tom. But what he discovered was that with a mixing board, separate headphone volume control for each members phones and mikes, we can play without the neighbors hearing. They just hear us singing from our mouths. Pretty cool huh? We do this every Friday. The one thing we don't do is gig. The drummer has his own band so they have regular dates they play, but this is a great way to get together and play rock and roll. We just do cover stuff, but we do The Dead, Beatles, The Who, Cream, Blind Faith, The Doors etc. It is a great thing after a hard days work on a Friday to come over with my Fender Stratocaster, plug in and ROCK!!

The Police/B-52's

After all these years, I still love going to concerts. Last night was no exception.
It was the final Police show ever, with the B-52's. I have seen the B's only a handful of times, but their tunes are great and they still rock.
I have seen the Police many times. I was even fortunate to see them at a now closed club called The Bottom Line in NYC.in 1979. Here is the ad from the archives:
APRIL 3-4, 1979
THE POLICE
* The show on April 4 was broadcast on WNEW F.M.

They blew the roof off of Madison Square Garden last night. They even did 2 cover tunes I never heard them do, Sunshine of Your Love and Purple Haze. Just amazing.
There were 2 groups I always hoped would get back together, The Police or Pink Floyd.
Aside for getting back together for that show last year, I doubt Floyd would ever get back on the road. But I am glad the Police did. Saw them twice last year and now the final show ever. Thank god for rock and roll. And these guys ROCKED!!!

J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!!

The Jets got Brett Favre. Pennington is toast. Don't know if the Super Bowl is in their future, but this gives the Jets a figting chance to do much better.
I am still in shock!!

How Things Change So Quickly

Ah, the Metsies. They do great , play well on all cylinders, and then go back to their old ways. It just drives me out of my gourd when they have bases loaded and can't score. Too many times. And the relief pitching is going back to their old ways.
I know they are only 2 1/2 games out, but they can't falter now.
Stay tuned...

Frampton Still Rocks!!!

New York is a great place, especially in the summer. Lots of free concerts.
Well, in Brooklyn, Brighton Beach to be exact, they have been having free concerts for what is now 30 years. Last night was Mickey Thomas and Starship, not with members of the Jefferson Starship, but you knew the tunes, and it was cool. Now, a word or two about Peter Framton. The man still sounds excellent. He played for about 2 hours and did all the stuff you wanted to hear including some cover tunes. He did While My Guitar Gently Weeps, which was great of course, but he also did a cover of Soundgarden's Black Old Sun. Holy shit!!! That was PHENOMINAL!!!
Next Thursday I have tickets to see the last Police concert ever, with The B-52's as opening band, at Madison Square Garden. That shouldn't be too shabby. I will keep you posted.
