A Great Grateful Dead Memory

Since I started this here blog, I haven't mentioned this momentous occasion,so I will now. 39 years ago today when I was 16,I attended my first Grateful Dead concert at the fabled Fillmore East. This was notable for 2 reasons, it was the last time the Dead played there and in June of that year the Fillmore closed. But on this night, it was just fantastic. The New Riders opened for them and the Dead played a great show which I believe was the last time they did Alligator. A friend of mine gave me something...lysergically speaking.. to enjoy the show and the light show too!
Plus I told my parents (RIP), that I won't be home too late. I believe I got home around 4. Needless to say the were pissed, but got used to the fact I was going to go to more shows and also needless to say, I didn't go to school that day. It was the first of many Dead shows, and I am always...pardon the expression...grateful, to my friends who took me there.

Let's Go Mets!

Well, well, well. What a difference a week makes. The Mets are in 2nd place 1 1/2 games behind Philly...who they play this weekend in the City Of Brotherly Love...and are 10-9 after being 4-8. The pitching, most importantly Pelfrey has been great and of course Santana has been consistent. Even the hitting is coming around except David Wright who is in a major funk. He needs to snap out of it extremely quickly.
However things are looking up for these Metsies. Let's hope it continues. The Dodgers with a manager named Joe Torre is up next. 2 out of 3 would be nice!

It was 40 Years ago today.

I know today is the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, but this is about baseball, and how this type of situation will never happen again, but I am glad it did once.
On April 22nd 1970, we were off from school for Spring Break that week. My friend from high school and I decided to see a Met game that particular afternoon, especially since Tom Seaver was on the mound. We also knew that if you got to Shea Stadium's advanced ticket window early enough, they had all the tickets for that day's game before they distributed them to the individual gates. Well, we asked for the best they had, which was first row by 1st base for $3.50 each. If you look at a list of Tom Seaver's top 10 games, this was one of them. He struck out 19 San Diego Padres, with the last 10 strikeouts in a row. I know that record was broken by a few others, but on that day it was just fantastic.

Shmets

They are 2-5. The pitching stinks. The hitting stinks. The manager stinks. The GM stinks. Do you think I have made my point?

Rangers

They had to win. They were outshot 47-25. They couldn't score when they had the chance. Lindqvist had to make just a few more saves in the shootout but couldn't. Moron Tortorella couldn't have Gaborik shoot in the shoot out. Therefore they lost and no playoffs. Hockey is done for me this year. What Dumb Dolan does at this point, I don't give a shit!!

Good Memories

Here is something that happened 23 years ago today 4-7-87...with a good ending, but at the time there was a lot of anxiety.
I was on my way to a Grateful Dead concert with a friend of mine at The Brendan Byrne Arena in New Jersey..now Izod Center. We get to the Lincoln Tunnel and traffic isn't moving, cause of a bus accident across 2 lanes. We have to back out and head downtown to the Holland Tunnel..along with everybody else..and the anxiety is starting cause it is taking longer than it should to get there. It was being simulcast on the local rock station and my friend joked that we can catch the beginning if we are late, but I didn't want that to happen. We get to the Meadowlands complex at 7:20..show was a 7:30 start, and we couldn't park by the arena and had to park by Giants Stadium which was a longer walk. Yada, yad, yada, we get in, stop at the facilities, get a soda..no beer being sold that night...and plop down on the seat and just as I say to my friend, man that was not fun. the lights go down. That was the only time in all the years of seeing The Dead, that something like that occured and I can laugh about it all these years later, but at the time it was just weird. And it was a great show!!

WHOO HOO!!

METS WIN 7-1!!! TOMORROW THE WORLD!!
And yes I know it is only one win, but it is a good start!!

Mets/Opning Day

Well, fellow Met fans, here we go again, the start of a new season. Last year was not good. Too many injuries, bad pitching, no clutch hitting, all resulting in a 70-92 record.
Now that I got last year out of the way, hopefully Reyes, Murphy and Beltran will get off the DL quickly and we will have only the usual scrapes and whatnot a season will bring and all the bad things are a lot better this year.
Santana on the mound for Opening Day..let's hope for a win and to the start of a good season. LETS GO METS!!

Rock and Roll

I am extremely lucky. I play in a band..unfortunately we don't gig due to lack of a bass player.., but we jam every Friday night. I also have a friend in Port Washington NY who has a band and he lets me sit in. Last Saturday was no exception. It is real cool that I have a chance to play live and that they guys let me play. it is also cool to play in front of your friends too. Just lots of fun!!
